Resizing images without losing quality
Resizing changes the pixel dimensions of an image, which is different from compressing it. Use resize when a site or form demands exact dimensions, such as a profile photo of 400 by 400 pixels.
Keep the aspect ratio
If you change the width without the height in proportion, the image stretches. Leave the keep ratio option on unless you specifically want to crop or distort the picture.
Resize before you compress
Shrinking a large photo first, then compressing it, gives the smallest file with the best appearance. Doing it the other way around can leave visible artefacts.
Like the other tools here, resizing happens in your browser and your images are never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded?
No, resizing happens in your browser.
Will resizing reduce quality?
Enlarging an image always softens it. Shrinking keeps it sharp.
How do I keep the aspect ratio?
Leave the keep ratio box checked and type only the width.
