How to create a strong password
A strong password is long, random and unique to one account. This generator uses your browser's secure random number generator, so the passwords are not predictable.
What makes a password strong
- Length matters most. Aim for at least 12 characters, ideally 16 or more.
- Variety of upper case, lower case, digits and symbols increases the number of possible combinations.
- Uniqueness means never reusing a password across sites.
Store them safely
Nobody can memorise dozens of random passwords. Use a reputable password manager to store them, and protect the manager itself with a long passphrase and two-factor authentication.
Frequently asked questions
Are the passwords sent to a server?
No. They are generated locally in your browser and never transmitted.
How long should my password be?
At least 12 characters for most accounts, and 16 or more for email and banking.
Should I reuse passwords?
No. If one site is breached, reused passwords let attackers access your other accounts.
